Easy, Flavorful Surf & Turf Recipe

Surf & Turf is one of those fancy (and very expensive) meals that you can really only eat once in a while. Not only is it filling, it can break the bank too. So in order to treat yourself, while keeping the money in the bank, try my easy and extra flavorful surf and turf recipe. The juicy steak, with the succulent spicy shrimp, along with the creamy garlic mashed potatoes is the perfect ending to a year that will be in the history books! Watch the video for this recipe here.

Ingredients:

For the Steak:

1 lb. thinly cut skirt steak

1 tsp black pepper

1 tsp salt (or to taste)

For the Shrimp:

1 lb. jumbo shrimp - cleaned, deveined, and remove the shell

1 tsp smoked paprika

1 tsp red chili flakes

1/2 tsp black pepper

1 tsp salt (or to taste0

For the Garlic Mashed Potatoes:

4 medium sized potatoes - peeled, and cut into chunks

1 cup half and half

2 tsp butter

2 garlic cloves - peeled and slit in the middle

1/2 tsp onion powder

1/2 tsp dried parsley

1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)

1/2 tsp black pepper

Method:

  1. Marinate the steak with all the spices and seasonings listed under steak ingredients. Mix well and let sit for 1-2 hours.

  2. Marinate the shrimp with all the seasonings listed under shrimp ingredients. Mix well and let sit for an hour.

  3. Boil the potatoes in water till fork tender. Drain and put them back into the same pot the potatoes boiled in and mash them with a potato masher or fork.

  4. Heat up in a small sauce pan the rest of the ingredients listed under mashed potatoes ingredients. Cook the half & half mixture till the garlic is tender.

  5. Pour the half & half mixture into the boiled and mashed potatoes. Mix well till all the ingredients have incorporated together. Set aside.

  6. In a large pan, cook the steak pieces till golden-brown and caramelized on both sides. You can cook your steak to your liking, but I like mine on the well done side. Remove from pan onto a plate, then cover with foil to retain the steak juices as it rests.

  7. In the same pan, add 1/2 tsp of butter, and some olive oil and let that heat up. Cook the shrimp in the oil/butter till pink on both sides. Once cooked, remove from pan and onto a plate.

  8. Serve your garlic mashed potatoes, steak, and shrimp with some broccoli or vegetables of your choice.
