Naan is one of those items from Indian/Pakistani restaurants that are the most unforgettable. Typically made in a tandoor (clay oven), they are perfect to sop up all the spicy curry goodness. They are easier to make than they look, and you can perfect them at home with just 2-ingredients. Keep on reading below for the recipe. If you missed my YouTube recipe video, you can watch it here!
Ingredients:
Dough:
2 1/2 cups self-rising flour (you can make your own by adding a teaspoon of baking powder)
1 1/2 cups + 2 tsp plain yogurt
Pinch of salt (optional)
If you want to make garlic naan:
1 clove garlic, very finely chopped
1 tsp cilantro (coriander leaves), finely chopped
3 tbsp melted butter, or oil
Pinch of salt (optional)
Method:
Mix the dough ingredients to make the dough. Knead it until the yogurt is well incorporated with the flour. Don't over knead or it will get too hard. Let the dough rest for 5-10 mins.
Make 6 balls out of the dough and roll each one out on a clean kitchen surface with some flour. You will see how I did this in the recipe video.
In a non-stick frying pan, or flat griddle, cook the naan on each side for a couple of mins.
Serve the naan as is plain with your favorite curry. Or you can make the garlic butter (mix all the ingredients under garlic naan ingredients). Then brush this butter mixture on top of the hot naan.
These can also be used as individual naan pizzas. Add your favorite sauce, toppings, and cheese - bake for a few and serve hot!
